KNOW YOUR TECH: Reebok One

KNOW YOUR TECH breaks down the scientific technology used in your favorite sneakers and activewear. Let’s demystify your next purchase: today’s technology is Reebok One. This construction is built from the back to the front instead of from the bottom-up like many performance sneakers. Through zoned sections, One technology offers a seamless, fused design that allows the sneaker's upper and midsole to move in harmony.

What is it? A seamless, fused sneaker design that splits the entire shoe into three different zones. The zones are designed to mimic the natural movement and transitions of the human foot, helping to make runs more efficient and comfortable.

How does it work? First, Zone 1 helps to address contact in the heel. It features a soft foam compound which immediately absorbs shock as the sneaker impacts the ground. Zone 2 is known as the midstance zone, ensuring that the foot's midfoot transitions is smooth and seamless. The third and final zone is the propulsive zone, which is equipped with a responsive, high-rebound foam compound which delivers forward energy during the toe-off phase. Because the upper is also split into three individual sections, the entire sneaker essentially works a single unit, hence the name "One."

Notable products: Reebok ONE Cushion

Bottom line: While it's still a relatively new concept, Reebok One is a promising technology that puts performance first. We're very interested to see how Reebok applies the technology to other models.
