In baseball, a pinch hit isn't incredibly rare, but they're not common by any means. Former outfielder Lenny Harris holds the all-time record with a career total of 212, and the record for most pinch hits in a single season belongs to John Vander Wal with 28. Add a home run to the equation, and it's even less frequent of an occurrence.

On September 19, 2000, Ken Griffey, Jr. made history by defying these odds and reaching a home run milestone. As the Cincinnati Reds lost 3-7 to the San Fransisco Giants, Griffey hit his 400th home run during a pinch hit scenario. This made him the first player to reach 400 HRs on a pinch hit, and he currently stands at #6 on the all-time home run leaders with 630 throughout his career.

During his entire professional run, Griffey was a Nike guy through and through. He's well known for his line of signature cross-trainers and cleats, but during 2000 he wore the slightly more obscure Nike Air Max Griffey Game Day. Featuring full-length visible Air cushioning and carbon fiber details, this model was supported by a synthetic Foamposite-like overlay.
