The Australian Open men's singles quarterfinals are off and rolling, and yesterday, two of the game's biggest stars earned their spots in what is sure to be a closely contested match. After smashing his racket, Andy Murray was able to top Stephane Robert 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (8-6), 6-2. He'll go on to meet Roger Federer, who had an easier day against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Federer advanced with a 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 win, and he will face Murray tomorrow at 3:30AM eastern time.
In the NBA, Martin Luther King Day celebrations were in full swing as several players broke out Black History Month variations of their sneakers. Houston's Chandler Parsons was the most dominant player of the night, dropping 31 points, 10 boards, and 7 assists on the Portland Trail Blazers.
In NCAA men's Top 25 action, No. 8 Kansas remained hot with a 78-68 win over No. 24 Baylor, which pushes the Jayhawks to 5-0 in Big 12 match-ups. Perry Ellis came up big in the Kansas win with 18 points and 5 boards.
